In defense for Chris, I think he mightve thought the OP was asking the difference between the TSI designation on the Golf R Engine cover versus the older FSI engine. Basically a modified EA113 with a TSI engine cover. As for the EA888 vs. EA113 there are many.
3.1 Intercooler. The Mk7 GTI utilizes an air-to-air intercooler that is located between the vehicle radiator and air conditioning condenser and is the subject of this test. There are a number of aftermarket intercoolers that replace the stock GTI intercooler. Another intercooler option is located in front of the air conditioning condenser.
I've run 18x8.5 ET35, 18x8 ET35, 18X8 ET44, 18X8.5 ET42 and 18x7.5 ET51. The 18x8.5 ET42 looks the best when slammed but rubs on freaking everything. 18x8 ET35 or 18X8.5 ET35 works well at stock or lowering springs, and 18x8.5 ET45 works best slammed without rubbing.
Looking to see if anyone has any information that discusses the differences between a 2015 and 2016 model. I am looking at the regular GTI, Autobahn, Performance Package variants with a panoramic moonroof and navigation (or is it better to replace the headunit with an aftermarket stereo and Garmin-based unit)? Located in Southern California.
Under the Golf R's hood is a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four-cylinder that makes 315 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque—up from 288 horsepower and 280 pound-feet in the last-generation R.
Personally I think the MK7.5 R might have been the pinnacle for the Golf platform, even without the trick rear differential of the MK8 Golf R and without some of the top trim MK8 convenience features, e.g., driver seat memory, ventilated seats, heated steering wheel, and heads up display.
The stock suspension is firm but comfortable. And you can always go with an aftermarket suspension upgrade if you want more. I do enjoy the Fender audio but they took that out of 2018 SE. Fender is the only thing I really miss in my SE, I've have been trying to get the Helix sub, but the order keeps getting cancelled by VW parts stores.
