I have chosen the 110 TD5 Defender as my first serious 4x4 for the following reasons: 1) Solid axles, coil springs, good articulation, good gear ratios, good clearance etc: better than anything else for R 300 000. In fact, just better than anything else. 2) Nice load space and unlimited ways of customising the vehicle to suit.

Either td5 or 300tdi , will need a careful look at , from a corrosion point of view . So when you budget probably look at 2/3 for purchase and 1/3 for rectification . Auto gearbox works well behind the 300tdi as well . Better 2nd row and if needed third row seating is a bit of a priority from passenger pov JMHO. Quote.
