The 1D III and 1D IV are both equipped with a mechanism that is estimated to last at least 300 000 shutter cycles. My friend and colleague has a 1D which has been used since 2002 and which is still working fine. Per Inge Oestmoen, Norway. I had 1DMk2 and the shutter failed at around 15000.
I just went to that site and they came back with a shutter count of 2,714. I have had this camera since 2009, shoot nearly every day, some times averaging 2,400 shutter clicks per day. The shutter will fail when it gets good and ready.
I know these are estimates and I know of cameras that far exceed it. I know a guy that has a 1Ds Mk III exactly like mine. The Canon estimate for this workhourse is 300k but he went pass 1,000,000. They claim that 33% of the 1Ds Mk III's will do that.
